The motif of Grandma’s homey kitchen with busy patterned wallpaper and dark oak booths that customers could slide into and cozy up in conversation continuously drew the town’s people in for a delicious bite to eat or a place to feel at home. On the first floor, they relaunched Country Kitchen Restaurant and really made it their own style of a family-friendly and cozy, neighborhood restaurant. They soon built a building matching the existing 1914 one that they were already in. Business quickly took off, and in September of 1983, they purchased the rented building they became to love, along with the stone gravel parking lot just east of that. The 1500 square foot diner was small, but the dreams that soon filled within it were big.
